Mona Azer, Coptic Orphans’ newest board member.

May 16, 2019, Washington D.C.—Coptic Orphans today announced the appointment of Mona Azer, Director of Information Technology at Fluence Energy, to its Board of Directors.

“Mona brings incredible talents to Coptic Orphans at an auspicious time of growth for our organization,” said Nermien Riad, Executive Director of Coptic Orphans. “Not only is she is a visionary leader in the business and technology space, but her expertise will be critical as we expand the reach of Coptic Orphans and streamline our operations across the globe. I’m honored that Mona has accepted the invitation to work alongside me and the rest of the Board.”

Mona currently serves as the Director of Information Technology at Fluence Energy. In addition to leading the organization’s Information Technology operations, Mona oversees internal Cybersecurity initiatives as well as the ERP implementation for greater adoption and utilization across the various business functions.

Prior to Fluence Energy, Mona served as the PMO Lead at the AES Corporation, leading IT assessments of M&A opportunities and on-going IT business processes. This was a natural transition after having worked with the AES team for four years as an independent consultant in the capacity of Program and Project Management lead for key IT Global initiatives.

Mona also has a long and accomplished career in the Telecommunications industry with well over 20 years of software development and management experience.

In 2012, Mona spearheaded the development and delivery of a mobile application for Verizon Business designed to deliver a Customer Loyalty application using the Agile methodology. The working prototype was eventually adopted by Verizon Business as a strategic product line.

Mona also participated in the integration activities between MCI and WorldCom and delivered “leading edge” solutions of a complex nature.

With a track record of success in both the private and nonprofit sectors, Mona has extensive experience leading large-scale projects for government contracts. Earlier in her career, she directed all IT related activities at the Refugee Processing Center on a Department of State contract. The case management system her team developed was maintained at all 10 international sites worldwide where refugee cases are initiated for processing and adjudication for entry to the US.

Finally, at the start of her career, in the 1980s, Mona witnessed history in the making while working on an international contract for the Middle East. She co-led the development and launch of the first automated, fully Bilingual Civil Registration system for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Among her colleagues and friends, Mona is known to be an “out of the box” thinker who enjoys challenging opportunities and developing creative solutions. She loves travelling internationally and maintains her Arabic linguistic abilities through regular travel to Egypt, her country of birth. She is an active member of the US-Egyptian and Coptic communities in Virginia where she lives with her family.

With the addition of Mona Azer as a highly respected member of our Board, Coptic Orphans is committed to continuing the rewarding work of its volunteers, staff, and sponsors in this new and exciting phase of its growth.
