The
food crisis of last year still lingers in Egypt. In fact, the World
Bank now warns that it might be here to stay.
The
price of meat in Egypt is now hovering around LE40.00 (US$ 7.10) per
kilo, and the prices of many basic necessities continue to rise. For
many Egyptian families who have lost a father, this means that meat
is off the menu altogether.
Even
when the Easter feast comes, some who cannot afford the price of meat
may still be fasting.
But
in Montréal,
a Coptic-owned business, Amira Enterprises, wanted to make a difference
for Easter.

They
agreed to partner with Coptic Orphans to host a grocery-bagging
fundraiser. Coptic Orphans volunteers would come in, bag groceries
for customers, and explain the cause. Customers then donate to
the
cause as they see fit.
Over
15 volunteers—children, youth, and servants—answered the call and
came early on Saturday, April 11 to support this spur-of-the-moment
fundraiser. In only 6 hours, with only 3 cash checkout lines,
they raised $652.80. 100% of the proceeds will go to Easter dinners
for children who have lost a father in Egypt.
Coptic
Orphans wishes to thank the administration of Amira Enterprises for
this wonderful opportunity to serve God through his children.
Thanks
to Amira Enterprises and the passionate volunteers who bagged groceries
and advocated for the cause of the widow and orphan in Egypt, many
children will celebrate the joy of the resurrection with meat, a treat
that some don’t see all year.
